Description
Sulcis to Discover Birdtrek is the excursion that will accompany you to discover the SIC Area (Site of Community Interest) of Porto Pino and its inhabitants.
Matteo Diana , Environmental Hiking Guide of Perdaxius (SU), will accompany you in this experience in the territory of Sulcis, precisely in the Municipality of Sant’Anna Arresi.
The excursions touch both the naturalistic aspects, but also the archaeological, historical-cultural ones, linked to craftsmanship and sustainable agriculture. Participants will be able to live experiences in the field of responsible tourism: from the observation of wildlife to the direct collection of agricultural products, such as saffron.
In particular during the excursions of Sulcis to Discover Birdtrek , which will take place in the lagoon area near the beach of Porto Pino, the species of aquatic and non-aquatic avifauna that frequent these wetlands of Sulcis will be observed and described. It will thus be possible to spot Flamingos, Herons, Mallards, Coots and many other species.

Excursion: BirdTrek to the Ponds of Porto Pino
Birdwatching excursion that takes place between the four backdunal ponds of Porto Pino, namely those of Porto Pino, Corvo, Foxi and Is Brebeis.
During the excursion, the species of aquatic and non-aquatic avifauna that frequent these wetlands will be observed and described. In particular it will be possible to spot Flamingos, Herons, Mallards, Coots and many other species.

Excursion: BirdTrek to the Pond of Maestrale
Birdwatching excursion that takes place in the first backdunal pond of Porto Pino, namely the Mistral pond. The stagnal system present in this important wetland shows how the Porto Pino beach has regressed over millions of years, starting precisely from the Mistral pond to reach its current position.
The Pond of Maestrale, despite its adjacency with other ponds, is distinguished by the presence of some distinctive observable species. Among the observable species we find, in fact, also the Great Crested Grebe and the Fratino.
This pond is also important because in it there is the first dewatering pump, which pushes the brackish water through the other ponds until it reaches the active salt pans of Sant’Antioco.
