Description

The Montessu Archaeological Park, about 2 km from the town of Villaperuccio, it houses one of the most important domus de janas necropolis in Sardinia.

The tombs found, about 40, are dug into the rocky wall of a splendid natural amphitheater that dominates the great plain crossed by the Rio Palmas from above. The site, of great interest also from the naturalistic point of view, is striking for its monumentality, for the typological variety of the burials and for the presence of decorations in numerous hypogea.

The Archaeological Park is close to the main seaside resorts of South West Sardinia: 20 minutes from the Is Solinas beach in Masainas or half an hour from Sant’Antioco and Porto Pino in Sant’Anna Arresi. The visit to the archaeological site therefore becomes an excellent alternative to the sea especially on less hot or windy days.
