Description
The “Antico Mulino ad Acqua Licheri” Ethnographic Museum it is located in the center of Fluminimaggiore. The museum building you will visit is an ancient Water Mill from the 1700s known as Mulino Licheri, it could be defined as “the house of memories of the Fluminese”.
Its original construction dates back to a few decades after the foundation of the current town, which took place in 1704 following the signing of an act of vassalage between Don Ignazio Asquer and Donna Eleonora Gessa, owners of the fief, and three people from Terralba, these one once they settled in their new residence they thought it best to build hydraulic mills, exploiting the large water resources that the area offered. The mills quickly replaced the asinine mole , certainly cheaper but much less productive; then began the construction of several hydraulic mills , so much so that in 1860 they could count as many as 21!
Once you have crossed the pretty wooden bridge of recent construction, the Museum offers an enchanting external view and the visit inside will make you know more closely the economic, social and cultural history of Fluminimaggiore.
The restoration of the building has preserved its original features, an example are the load-bearing walls rebuilt with the ancient raw brick ( About Thieves ) mixed with mud and coarse straw ( Nuera ), as well as the typical barrel cover ( Cannitzara ).
The visit begins in the external courtyard where some tools are arranged such as the asinarian grinder ( Sa Moba in Mobenti ), who minced the cereals with the help of the donkey. Under the building there are the two spoked wheels arranged horizontally that started the mill, using the water of the river as the driving force.
The mill is made up of 11 rooms, each of which tells a part of the history of this pretty village in the sulcis, a corner of Sardinia of rare beauty with splendid unspoiled and still little-known landscapes.
The museum is currently managed by the cooperative Start One Soc. Coop .
